General Information
Neither a car nor a motorcycle, the Slingshot is a centaur of a vehicle: Car in front/motorcycle in the rear.
The Slingshot seats two, side-by-side, and has two wheels up front. The driver controls the Slingshot with car-like controls – steering wheel, foot pedals, center-mounted gear shift lever, etc. There’s a single center drive wheel in the rear, and the vehicle’s plastic body panels mount on a frame made of steel tubing.
The SL adds Slingshot Ride Command and a 100-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system, it’s aseven-inch touchscreen infotainment center which is a worthy upgrade providing full Bluetooth compatibility with your smartphone.
While the layout is exotic, the hardware in the Slingshot is very simple. A 2.4-liter General Motors-sourced inline 4-cylinder engine (173 hp/166 lb-ft of torque) connected to a 5-speed manual transmission motivates the 1,749-lb vehicle.
173 hp doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s enough to make the lightweight Slingshot feel very fast.
